Research Says: Intelligence Is Inherited From The Mother, Not the Father
There has been some new research that suggests that moms are responsible for your intelligence. According to this genetic breakthrough, the mother’s intelligence weighs down more heavily than the father’s.
It is already known that women carry two X chromosomes, whereas the men carry one X and one Y. These chromosomes are present in each cell. They have the genetic information that makes us who we are. Furthermore, conditioned genes only become active when they come from a specific parent, in this case- the mother. It is believed that intelligence is carried on the X chromosome and it is active only when it comes from the mother’s genetic material.
Intelligence Inherited From the Mother?
Scientists have actually tested this theory with genetically modified mice. They discovered that the mice who received maternal genetic material had larger and more active brains, but smaller bodies. So, those who had more paternal genetic information showed the opposite. The brains were much smaller, but bodies larger and stronger.
Researchers have found that there are six areas of the brain that contain genes from one parent. So, they discovered that there was not paternal genetic material in the cerebral cortex. This area of the brain is responsible for intelligence, language, logic and reasoning, and advanced thinking. The whole genetic makeup came from the mother only.
Similar findings were discovered in Scotland as well but in a different way. Some researchers followed twelve thousand young people as they reached adulthood. So, every year they interviewed the subjects and followed their intellectual development. They were looking into many factors, like gender, ethnic background, and education. Finally, they discovered that the subject’s IQ was predicted by the mother’s intelligence.
Is Intelligence the Most Important Part of a Child‘s Life?
Naturally, one person’s intelligence is not only influenced by genetics. However, there are a lot of things that one parent can do to encourage intellectual growth. Therefore, read to your kids, let them do art, send them to music lessons, study other cultures, teach them to cook or eat together as a family. Just make sure that they are engaged.
Finally, you need to bear in mind that our genetic information is not as important as is the fact of what we do with it. So, a father that spends quality time with his kids is also an important part of the kid’s life as is the mother’s genetic material. So, you should know that it is nice of a mom to pass nice genes, but she should also take care of stimulating the kids intellectually. You need to do everything you can for them and hope for the best. Genes are not everything!
